Why do hemophiliacs bleed?

Hosp Pract (Off Ed). 1992 Mar 15;27(3):71-4, 79-82, 85-6. doi: 10.1080/21548331.1992.11705381.

Abstract

A revised hypothesis of coagulation integrates all the factors known to be involved into a single pathway that is initiated by factor VIIa/tissue factor and in which "contact" factors are not required. A key point is that the initial hemostatic response must be "consolidated" by the progressive local generation of factor Xa and thrombin.
