Children of Disrupted Families: Reducing the harmful effects

Can Fam Physician. 1991 Feb:37:436-40.

Abstract

While some children cope well with divorce, children of divorced parents are at increased risk for suicide, low self-esteem, affective disorders, and general distress. Useful intervention from the family physician usually begins with educating parents about what to expect and about the importance of open communication, co-operation between parents, and consistent discipline.
