Pathological Examination of Plicated Medial Rectus Muscle for Treatment of Re-recurrent Exotropia

J Pediatr Ophthalmol Strabismus. 2018 Aug 29:55:e20-e21. doi: 10.3928/01913913-20180802-03.

Abstract

Plication and resection are surgical procedures commonly used for the treatment of strabismus. Further studies are needed to understand the postoperative effects of plication on muscle tissue. This case report examines a pathological section of a plicated medial rectus muscle, revealing myocyte injury and replacement with fibroconnective tissue.
