Carvedilol is a nonselective adrenergic blocker indicated for the chronic therapy of heart failure with reduced ejection fraction, hypertension, and left ventricular dysfunction following myocardial infarction in clinically stable patients. Carvedilol is utilized off-label for stable angina, atrial fibrillation, prophylaxis against cirrhotic esophageal variceal bleeding, and the management of ventricular arrhythmias. This activity reviews the mechanism of action, adverse event profile, toxicity, dosing, pharmacodynamics, and monitoring of carvedilol.
