Paraovarian cystoadenofibroma: an unusual finding in two adolescent twin sisters

Gynecol Endocrinol. 2022 Jul;38(7):612-614. doi: 10.1080/09513590.2022.2071866. Epub 2022 May 9.

Abstract

Background: The presence of a rare lesion for pediatric population, encountered in twins, as far as we know, is an exceptional event. The event made the management of a pathology, for which there are no guidelines in the pediatric field, even more delicate.

Case report: Two twin sisters came to our attention, a short time after each other, due to the presence of a voluminous abdominal mass. After complete resection, the histological diagnosis was that of a paraovarian cystoadenofibroma.

Discussion: In pediatric surgery being minimally invasive is mandatory. However in selected cases the only objective, especially speaking of pediatric patients, ais to be radical and to protect the adnexal structures.
