The uterine unfolding sign: A sonographic marker in cesarean scar pregnancy beyond the first trimester

Eur J Obstet Gynecol Reprod Biol. 2025 Feb:305:427-430. doi: 10.1016/j.ejogrb.2024.11.047. Epub 2024 Dec 4.

Abstract

Cesarean scar pregnancy refers to the complete or partial implantation of a gestational sac within an existent cesarean scar. Expectant management of caesarean scar pregnancy can lead to uterine rupture, a rare but life-threatening complication. We report here a sonographic marker which could predict short-term risk of uterine rupture in the context of expectant management of CSP after 15 weeks.

Keywords: CS: cesarean scar; CSP: cesarean scar pregnancy; GW: gestational weeks; PAS: placenta accreta spectrum; RMT: residual myometrial thickness.
